FIAT 124 SPORT COUPE S1
A beautiful and totally original early series one 124 Coupe.
Bought new by teacher Silvia Viani on the 9th of March 1968 as a 50th Birthday present to her self. She kept it for the rest of her life, the last Revsione or MOT was in 1995 after which it resided in her garage. In 2014 it was bought from the Viani family by enthusiast Angelo Tosi who gave it the once over with a new cam belt, general service new shock absorbers and tyres and a full repaint (Italians seam incapable of not doing this!) The car was regularly MOT'd and used to take on trips to car shows and sunny days out. It was bought by us last year. We have gone through it somewhat more thoroughly than Mr Tosi did, the steering box had slight play in it so this was removed, cleaned and filled with new oil and correctly adjusted, the heater valve was replaced as it couldn't be completely turned off! All the rubber boots on the front suspension and steering ball joints have been replaced, engine gearbox and diff oils have been replaced. The coolant and brake fluid have been replaced. Renouned motoring Journalist LJK Setright praised the 124 Coupe highly, commenting that the steering is light and uncannily precise and the chassis was decades ahead of the competition. "What a force for good was Fiat in those days! The 124, pioneer of load-dependent anti-lock braking, was imperturbable. The elegant S1 124 Coupé had unbelievably good roadholding." Autocar also expoused that "Seldom have the Autocar staff been so unanimous of their praise of a car" further saying "handling and roadholding set new standards"
