FIAT 850 COUPE S1I found this car in Vicenza, It was being sold by the nephew of the original owner. His uncle had bought it new in 1966 and used it until he stopped driving in 1970 the car had covered 21000kms. He died in 1974 and the car was passed on to his sister who then kept it in a warehouse for 42 years she then gave it to her nephew. He then fully recomissioned the car spending nearly €5000 on it, the engine was completely striped, cleaned, honed and reassembled with with new valve guides, seals and gaskets, four new shock absorbers, four new tyres, new wheel cylinders, brake master cylinder, rebuilt calipers, new pipes and hoses, rebuilt carburettor, new fuel pump, fuel lines, four wheel alignment and so on, the result is a car that drives like new. He was only selling it as he just didnt use it. Bodily the car is completly original, rust and damage free. Excellent paint of which around half is factory. The interior again completely original and undamaged even the rubber floor mats are the ones fitted when it was new. The red interior contrasts beautifully with the grey exterior and is in my opinion the best combination. The Fiat 850. The Fiat 850 was introduced as a 2-door saloon in 1964 to replace the 600. It had a more powerful 843cc engine. The sport coupe and spider appeared in 1965, both drew praise from testers of the day for having a decent turn of speed and excellent handling, Road and Track described the coupe as ‘One of the best balanced and hansom designs available”. The engines had higher compression than the saloon and produced around 25% more power and will do nearly 50mpg. It was revised in 1968 with twin headlights and 903cc engine but lost some of the finer detailing and charm. There were several Abarth versions with 1000-2000cc engines. A very pretty and alluring little car that makes everyone smile as you drive pass!
