FIAT 850 SPORT COUPETurchese bleu with tan vinyl and grey rubber mats.
I bought this car from its one and only owner just outside Palermo, who’d kept it in the same garage from new. Its covered just 44000 warranted miles in nearly 50 years, 4000 of them on a round trip to Spain. The Fiat 850. The Fiat 850 was introduced as a 2-door saloon in 1964 to replace the 600 with a more powerful 843cc engine. The sport coupe and spider appeared in 1965, both drew praise from testers of the day for having a decent turn of speed and excellent handling, Road and Track described the coupe as ‘One of the best balanced and hansom designs available”. They had higher compression than the saloon with around 25% more power. It was revised in 1968 with twin headlights and 903cc engine but lost some of the finer detailing and charm. There were several Abarth versions with 1000-2000cc engines. This Car. A very pretty and alluring little car that makes everyone smile as you drive pass. Owned by Fillipo Lomi from new, who’s now in his early eighties, although not looking a day over 65, he felt it was time to get something more modern! He only used the car for longer trips using a scooter locally. A member of his family has maintained it, but as with so much in Italy was always paid for with cash so no paper trail. It developed an engine fault in 2013 and was rebuilt in 2015, and is still being run in. We have just MOT’ed it to find only a couple of bushes needed replacing in the steering. Mechanical, The engine has just been rebuilt and is running perfectly and pulls eagerly. The gearbox and drive train are faultless and make no undue noise. The brakes have just been overhauled with a new master cylinder, and header tank, flexible hoses and rear wheel cylinders as they were suffering from lack of use. It has four new tyres, fresh oil bottom hose etc. Body. The body is rust free, original, very straight and undamaged. It has had a very high quality re-spray and is virtually flawless with just a couple of 'touch-ins' evident The chrome is in amazing condition with a deep shine, no pitting or corrosion. Everything works; the windows open and shut easily, the doors shut with a pleasing clunk and fit perfectly. Interior. The seats have had covers on since 1967 and are still looking as new as the day they were put on. The dashboard is clean and crack free all the gauges function as they should. Boot, In the front of this car! All original with jack and full tool kit. This must be one of the nicest examples of this pocket size sports car available, and one that will keep you grinning!
